5 Ways to Find Balance

Let’s face it, many of us are feeling the ‘January Blues’ this month. We asked our team to weigh in with what they’re doing to find balance in the everyday & we’ve rounded up our 5 favourites to share with you!

1. Get the Stretch

You might already know the benefits of daily stretching for your physical health: Increasing your range of motion, increasing blood flow to your muscles, improving your posture, helping to heal and prevent back pain, but would you believe us if we told you that stretching has actually been shown to increase serotonin levels?

That’s right, serotonin is the hormone that helps stabilize our mood, reduce stress, and overall makes us feel good.

Bonus: Stretching can also help decrease tension headaches!

2. Find your Groove

Turn on your favourite playlist & get grooving along to your favourite tunes. Dancing is a great way to stay fit for all ages, shapes & sizes, improving muscle tone, strength, endurance and increasing fitness. It’s our favourite way to complete the stress cycle by getting moving & resetting.

Bonus Belt: The vagus nerve is the longest nerve in your body and is connected to your vocal cords and the muscles at the back of your neck. So singing & humming along to your favourite tunes can activate these muscles and stimulate the vagus nerve, improving mood, digestion & more!

3. Tune it Out

It might be time to take a break from breaking news. It’s important to stay informed, but unfortunately, the bad stuff can be better for ratings, social media interaction & can leave your energy feeling depleted when it isn’t balanced with good news.

Pick a time & place: Give yourself permission to check in once a week & see how you feel.

4. Take the Break

You might not have time for hour-long breaks during the workday, but taking a series of ‘microbreaks’ can work wonders for the body & mind.

A ‘microbreak’ is any brief activity to break up the monotony of physically and mentally draining tasks. From a few seconds to a few minutes, making some tea can get you out of your seat, stretching and changing positions.

But why? It refreshes your ability to concentrate, change perspective and reduce physical impacts of sitting for long periods of time.

5. Reclaim your Rest

Prioritising getting a good nights sleep as a part of your daily routine is so worth it. You’ll notice more of an ability to focus, with a sharper brain as well as a mood boost, since your brain processes your emotions while you sleep. Not getting enough sleep means more negative and less positive emotional reactions.

Bonus: Getting the proper amount of sleep helps your immune system react quicker.
